On his First attempt in a Jump off Drouin cleared the height of 2.34 metres to capture gold . Derek is the reigning world gold medalist, having won the gold medal at the World Championships in Beijing in August of 2015.

Derek Captured the Pan- American Games Gold Medal on home soil in Toronto,  Canada with a jump of 2.37 metres . “I have competed at so many places around the world but not a big meet in Canada, so it’s been a memory that I’ll cherish forever, for sure."

Derek Drouin won Canada’s only  medal in Track and Field at London's 2012 Olympics. He was part of a three-way tie for bronze after clearing 2.29metres .  The medal  was Canada’s first Olympic high jump medal since Greg Joy’s silver at Montreal 1976.
